Brake Pad Recommendation for Rain Bike?(3 posts)

Brake Pad Recommendation for Rain Bike?MellowVelo

Anyone have a suggestion for a Shimano Cartridge type break pad (Ultegra/DA) That will not wear out after a few weeks of rainy rides?

I had a set of new standard pads on my rain bike - they were worn almost down to the caliper after 700 miles. This bike is ridden almost exlusively in the rain and obviously I have to deal with crap building on the rims during a ride, but I clean the bike after every rainy ride including a throrough cleaning of the rim & pads. Our roads here are sanded this time of year so a lot of that ends up on the rim.

Any recommendations?

I picked a set up for the commuter and could not be more pleased. No considerable wear on the pads in over 1K miles. Braking performance seems slightly better in wet conditions once broken in (relative to Ultegra pads). I've also found that my rims stay much cleaner.

See the thread below. I live in London, it's wet all the time and I've Kool Stop Salmons on all my bikes. As everyone's noted, they stop better, seem to be less abrasive on the rims and simply work.
