My frame had a creaking noise from the bottom bracket area that was driving me crazy. Took apart and serviced just about every blasted part on the frame to no avail. Finally found the source; front derailleur clamp band contact with frame tube. To fix it I took off the derailleur and wrapped the seat tube with Teflon tape in the clamp area before reinstalling derailleur. Problem solved!

Just thought someone else may benefit from my discovery.

Good luck.

I've never seen teflon used for the FD clamp. But I have seen the FD mounted in a variety of ways:

1) clamp directly on seat tube
2) a sandpaper like tape (smooth adhesive side around the seat tube, FD clamp wraps around the "rough" edge to help keep it in place)
3) lots of other variations of tape

With tube shapes being far from round these days, I would think #2 or #3 would be almost necessary to get a good clamp contact.
