What am I missing? I am looking at a 13-29 for my '03 record setup and see only a 5 gram difference between the two, and a 50% price difference (Totalcycling.com). Why buy record????? Thanks....

ya got me...actually, I wouldn't even get Chorus after having problems w/ a creaky '03 Chorus 13-29 cassette caused by slightly loose rivets on the 17/19 pair (replaced w/ a new pair from Branford and it is OK now). The last cassette I bought was a Centaur 12-25, slightly heavier, but fewer cogs are riveted to carriers so there is less potential for creaking and FWIW it has been trouble free after a few thousand miles.
Poseur value?? (nm)Dave_Stohler

There's about 30g difference between a standard Record and Chorus 11-23 cassette. The larger ones weight more regardless and the weight difference between Record and Chorus becomes greater (my guess for your size it's more like a 50g difference).
32 g difference, thats $3 per gram...hdnoise

The Record cassette doesn't bring much to the party unless you are world class competitive and need the tiny advantage it brings. Otherwise, a steel Chorus is more than adequate, and Veloce and Centaur are pretty close.
