Does any one know a US company that stocks the Stronglight "Impact Compact" 48/34 Crankset. Any suggestions for "quality" alternatives that would allow for smaller rings than the standard 52 or 53 large ring. I currently have an Ultegra triple but feel that I don't need the larger ratio that is there and could reduce to a double as well if I could reduce the ring sizes.

I have some Stronglight rings that I bought from ThorUSA (www.thorusa.com) and a Stronglight Speedlight crank that, though second-hand, also came from there. I'd check it out.

Otherwise, you could look at any 110-BCD crank or (gasp!) MTB crank; there are lots of after-market rings available.

FSA makes a crankset in alloy and one in carbon that is as you describe and it may be easier to find.

Had LBS call Stronglight US dist. They said none in the States and 8 weeks to order. They also mentioned a lighter weight version as well. xxcycles.com in France has the Impact Compacts, and will ship to US. I ended up getting some FSA's on ebay for a decent (still way too much for a pair of cross cranks) price.
