What is the maximum amount of steerer tube I can have above the head tube?

The maximum amount Reynolds recommends above the top of the headset is 35 mm. you could alwatys get a stem with more rise, depending on what your current rise is, if you need more. Most carbon fork manufactures have a simular maximum amount of spacers.

You'll get various answers. I've used 30mm of spacers with no problem, now using 25mm, and that's on a 1" Ouzo Pro. My wife had about 50mm on her previous bike, again 1" Ouzo Pro. But neither of us are heavy weight hammerhead sprinters. I weigh 165 and I've never felt any flex from the Ouzo Pro. YMMV. (BTW, I now have an extra 43mm rake 1" Ouzo Pro.)

It's washer stack,between the stem and top of headset. Typical industry recommendation for CF steerers is 25mm for 1", and 35mm with 11/8" steerers. Some makers may have other specific recmmendations. Some people 'get way with' more.
