DA Triple Front Der. Set Up Problemmarkkar
Dec 8, 2003 10:41 AM
I was building up a Trek 5500 with Dura Ace triple group over the weekend. Having trouble with the front derailleur and left shift lever. The left shift lever does not seem to want to release the cable tension when shifting to the small chainring and then the whole thing gets stuck and won't up or downshift. Cable housing appears smooth with no burrs on the ends. Followed the Shimano directions explicitly. I know there were some dud left shift levers when this group first came out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds to me like the barrel adjuster is too tight and not allowing the shifter to come down to the lowest position. Try loosening the cable adjsutment until the cable has some slack, then gradually increase it just enough to make the 30 to 39 shift. You are using a 53/39/30 crank aren't you?

Yes, the 53/39/30 crankset. Looking at it again, I didn't follow the directions as well as I thought. Where, the cable attaches to the cable fixing bolt I have the cable running under the nub instead of over the top of the nub as shown in the installation instructions. I will re route the cable and see if that eliminates the problem. Thanks!
