I would like to use an older Campagnolo 8-speed hub on a new wheel. Can I use this hub with newer 9-speed cassettes, or 10-speed cassettes if I upgrade?

The 8 speed hub is not compatable with the 9/10 speed campy.

The spacers are different thickness, the sprockets are different thickness and depth of the groves on the 9/10 speed is deeper and the mating knotches on the sprockets are longer on the 9/10.

Branfordbike.com use to sell a shift 9 spacer set that allowed you to add a gear to an 8 speed cassette to go 9 speed, but I don't think they sell it anymore.

To switch the 8 to 9/10 a new 8/9 speed freehub would have to be used.

I was hoping to mount my existing 9-speed cassette on an 8-speed hub. I do not want to convert an 8-speed cassette.

If I recall correctly (the transition was several years ago) the splines are different between the 8 speed cogs and the newer 9 and 10 speed cogs. I don't believe a 9 speed cogset will fit on the older 8 speed hub.

The absolute authority in all such matters is Branford Bike. Check their web site at www.branfordbike.com

That should be able to answer all your question.

They'll send you to the website. The conversion kit to use your 8 speed hub is made and available from them. You will need a 9th cog however.

Sorry, You can shift 9 but you have to use an 8 speed cassette plus 1.
