CK vs. DA 7800 hubs(2 posts)

CK vs. DA 7800 hubsfallzboater

I'm going to be building up a new bike with DA 10-speed in the next few weeks. I'm debating on whether to keep my Chris King/Open Pro wheels, or sell those and build a new wheelset with the 7800 hubs and probably Velocity Aerohead rims (OC in the back).

I love the looks and engineering of the CK hubs, but the buzz is a bit annoying. Also, I've been using loose cogs (DA 8-speed) on the aluminum drive shell (freehub body) and it's damaged enough that it's difficult to get the cogs on and off. If I knew that CK was going to offer a 10-speed Al drive shell (taller splines), I would stick with that, but if they are, they're not saying.

The 7800 hubs are now as light as the CK hubs, are cheaper, spin easier, and are quieter. Plus, I'd have an excuse to build another wheelset. Not as pretty though.

Any opinions?

To be completely rational, you would say that the CK has no performance benefits over the DA, and you might even argue that the DA is better: quiet, parts more readily available. And certainly the DAs are cheaper. But you describe the CK's as pretty. The old adage is "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Your call.
