Some of mine must have tens of thousands of miles on them (one derailleur has been on three mountain bikes and a couple of commuters), and I've never had to replace one. As long as they're going around and the bike shifts properly, I think I'd use the money for something else.

I wore out a set this spring due to the sand on the roads getting in the drive train and inside the jockey wheels. Wore the ID like sand paper. The wheels were wobbly and shifting was poor.

If the wheels turn freely without a lot of play they should be okay.
