|Ultegra Triple in 52/*39*/30 ?||Drone 5200|

|Can I throw a 39T ring on my ultegra triple? If yes, where would I find one online?
I have a feeling you're gonna say that the right way to do it is with dura-ace cranks, rings and derailler. Is that right?
Also, is the front derailler on my OCLV the "clamp on" type? Just without the clamp.
If your wondering, I'm just curious about the 53/39 gearing. I'd like to try a 39t middle ring to see how I do on the hills around here. Just wanna do some experimenting.

|seems to me you can take a 39t ring from a double setup... doesn't performance sell the 39t rings ?
But I suspect that the front derailleur won't be very happy. I've tried running a dura-ace triple front derailleur on my 52/42/30 Ultegra, it didn't work well. So I would think that running an ultegra front der. with a dura-ace-type chainring config. doesn't work very well either.
I would say, if you put a 39t ring, put as well a dura-ace front derailleur.

|Shimanao claims the DA triple FD is compatible only with the DA front shifter. Others have used the combo and have been happy with it,some others not...A 39 ring will work with your setup,and it will work better if you can find one that is pinned and ramped like your ultegra 42.A DA 39 ring won't work on an ultegra crank.|

|I have searched and only found the 42 tooth middle ring for the Ultegra triple crank. Not sure why they do not make a 39. You can find plenty of 39 tooth rings that will fit the crank and will shift fine between the middle and big ring. They will not shift well from the granny to the middle ring however. I have tried it. It works but it is slow and does not work well under a load. It is not any worse than old style triples without the ramped and pinned rings. If you do not use the granny that often you may not care.|

|I believe TA makes a 39t ring that is suppose to work on a Shimano non-DA triple. It may be called an Allez ring and available from www.peterwhitecycles.com. I've also heard that an aftermarket 39 made for a double will not work well on a triple because it is not ramped and pinned to work with the granny ring.

|Buy a T/A specialties ring. It will shift better than the Shimano both up and down. Choose the size you like. They make them in one tooth increments. You will be happy. I use a 41 tooth on the tandem. T/A quality is excellent but you pay for it.|

|Sounds like the TA is just want I need. I will try it with the Ultegra derailer first, see how it goes. I can always pick up a D/A front derailer if necessary.|

|Have a Ultegra triple. Some parts of the drive train (chain, ring, FD) were coming to the end of service life and I had a week long ride coming up. This combo works great. DA triple FD, TA triple 39t ring, Ultegra shifters, DA chain, connex link. The key is getting the thing set up correctly. Saw on the Parktools site that the space between the FD cage and the big ring is the width of a penny. The DA chain made a big difference. Have read that Ultegra FD works well with a 10t difference when shifting from mid to big and DA works well 10t to 14t.|

I'm running a DA chain with ultegra everything else. I'm gonna get the TA 39t and will upgrade the DA front derailler. Thanks for the tip on dialing in the adjustment. I'll let you all know how it goes.
