I need crankset!!!!Kaboom

Considering that i dont have megabucks (on a highschool budget here) and that i can spend up to 300-350$ on a crankset, do i even have a chance with CF?
if not, what cranks are light and stiff for that price, and at the same time look cool too?
Strictly double.
High school kids should not ride carbon.the bull

Save your money for pizza beer and books!
I like toys as much as the next guy, but I have to agree -- ifbill

you have to stretch to get a part like a CF crank, which is nothing but a couple of grams and eye candy, dude, think about your priorities. You're in HIGH SCHOOL. You'll have this bike for how long?
Ride your bike and kick ass over old farts like me on competent but unglamorous equipment, just because you can. Believe me, the rest of us are jealous just of that alone. You have plenty of time before you need to console yourself with toys, as do old farts like me.

Go to www.wisecyclebuys.com. William is closing out a couple of sizes. Also look to Ebay. I put a set of the FSA carbon pro team issues on my bike for $320 including the FSA Ultimate ti ISIS bottom bracket.
Given that CF appears to have an age limit on it...Kaboom

What other options do I have? Dura-Ace is definately OUT of the question. Much difference between 105 and ultegra? the rest of my drivetrain is ultega.
I need to change this crank because i'm running a stronglight with a million miles on it, the rings are kind of bent and the middle ring has taken so much that it doesnt even hold the nine-speed chain. if you step on it too hard it will skip. I've gone down twice cuz of this.
So buy the Ultegra... it's cheap and easy to findrussw19

Save your money. Get something practicle like your parents will always tell you. They are right. Find yourself a nice used Ultegra crank and put it on, or just buy some new TA chainrings for your current cranks. Think about this for a second... who are you trying to impress with the "cool looking" cranks? Highschool girls don't give a damn about how cool your carbon cranks are! Save your money, get a guitar, learn to play it, join a band and stop taking showers and let your hair grow... you will get more girls then you know what to do with! Trust me, rock stars get more chicks than any damn cyclist. I don't care if you are Lance or freaking Mario Cippolini... Gene Simmons got more booty! And he's fugly!

OK, seriously now... why worry about how your cranks look? When I was in HS, I rode a lot with a group that had a 24 year old girl in the group. I was seriously lusting after that girl. She was just impressed that I was in HS and was as fast as I was and as serious about cycling as I was. Most people you meet will feel the same. If I met some kid in HS who could ride, but didn't have nice cranks, I wouldn't care. In fact, when I replace my 9 speed Dura-Ace stuff for the 10 speed stuff, I would probably give a kid like that my old cranks for free just because I remember what it was like being in HS and being poor and not having the cool parts that my older riding buddies had. Join a cycling club and I bet someone takes you under their wing, so to speak, and will do the same for you.

And while you are at it, join a band too.

Why not DA?xcmntgeek

You mentioned a budget of about $300, you can get a 2003 DA crank for around 180, less on ebay, (and buy an Ultegra BB, screw DA unless you like to do maintenance). Ultegra will work fine as well. I'm a HS student as well so I hear where you're coming from.

i am ALSO a high school student.....a junior.....you've just gotta look around when it comes to bike stuff. i was on a serious budget when i bought my ultegra cranks because i was saving for a car at the time but i looked and looked and finally found some brand-new ultegra cranks for 69.99 in the bargain bin at supergo bike shop in fountain valley. they had a tiny little hairline scratch that was barely visible on the inner-facing side of the left crank-arm, and i got them for CHEAP. buy the ultegras, and take that girl out to a movie and a long walk in the moonlight afterwards with the money you've saved.
speaking of bargains....i got my conti gp3000s for 34.95 each from biketiresdirect.com, took 6 days to get here though!
