As Rusty said, they won't work. The reason is, prior to 9 speed, Dura Ace rear der moved a different amount per "click" than other Shimano rear der's. Shimano changed this for 9 speeds. 8 speed DA rear der's are pretty cheap on Ebay. Buy the way, 6,7 and 8 DA rear will all work with 8 speed DA shifters and shift through 8 speed cogs. Look for any rear der. in the 7400 series
Hmm - interesting! Thanks.mcbaker55

Back when, I decided to upgrade to D/A DT shifters from my 105s... Little did I know that the clicks were different due to the different geometry of the rear derailleur. So, off to the LBS (this was back before mail order was as ubiquitos as it is now) to buy the way pricey D/A rear deralleur.

FWIW, try running the cable around the wrong side of the mounting bolt on the rear derailleur. It may just work. I've heard rumors anyway...

That's interesting and something I'd forgotten, because I'm just in process of upgrading my winter training bike from 8 speed Ultegra to DA, which I have taken from another bike.

I'm currently 50% through the rebuild, so now have Ultegra STIs with DA rear mech, and at the extremes of the block things are not right. I've got the 8 speed DA STIs to fit as next stage but am changing all cables, inner and outer, so not something to rush.

Have already had to fit a new (DA) bottom bracket becaseu DA 7400 chainset requires a very short axle.

Cheers
