What is the biggest difference between the Mavic Ksyrium Elite and the Mavic Ksyrium SL? There is around a $300 difference. Worth it? Thanks!

I don't have a set of each in front of me to double check, but I believe the differences are in every component. The rims are very similar in strength etc, but the ones on the SL's have shaved cut outs between the spokes to save weight. The spokes on the SL's are alloy aero spokes, as opposed to steel bladed spokes on the Elites. And the hubs are also different to accomodate the different spoke heads. Sorry I don't know if the bearings are different. I've heard good things about the Elite's, and friends of mine love the SL's. There's probably more information on the mavic website I'd imagine.

I hope this helps a little.

Unless you buy from a Euro source, where the SL's can be had for around $600, neither of these wheels is worth the money, IMO. I have the SL model and it's a great wheelset, but I only paid $560 from www.totalcycling.com. This was before the value of the dollar dropped in Europe.

These wheels can be compared at www.mavic.com.

If you can't find a bargain price on the Mavic wheels, I'd look into Campy Neutron or Eurus wheels. Very nice wheels for less than $600.

If you want real value, stick with custom built wheels and save $200 or more.

I agree that the Mavic wheels have become so pricey due to Euro that other choices are now for real. I also like the Campy wheels, but for around $500 you can get a set of Dave's Speedreams and you will never regret it.
