I bought a used wheelset that didn't have skewers.
The shop had some used ones, so I just bought them.

I've set everything up and it's working well but the rear skewer has the bolt sticking out a little longer.

Can you cut it or buy a shorter bolt? It's a salsa. THanks.

You most likely have a mountain bike skewer. Mountain axles are 135mm, road (modern 8 to 10 speed) is 130mm. You can cut down the excess or just leave it, it won't hurt anything unless you brush your leg against it while moving it around.

If the nut does not bottom out on the threads, then the skewer is not too long. IOW, it works. Having the skewer sticking out a little from the nut is not a (serious) problem.
