Creaking Jake(7 posts)

Creaking Jakemcbaker55
Oct 3, 2003 2:44 PM
My new Kona Jake The Snake has developed a creak that I can't seem to track down. It started with less than 100 miles on the bike and seems to be getting somewhat louder. It happens when I'm out of the saddle on each power stroke and sounds like as I pedal. Sometimes it happens when I hit a bump, but I can't really reproduce it other than out of the saddle (for instance, torquing the bars while stationary doesn't do it). So far I have:

Removed, re-greased, and tightened BB/crank
Tightened headset, stem, bar clamp
Changed saddle and greased rails
Tightened seatpost clamp
Tightened rear derailleur bolt
Tightened rear derailleur hanger

So what have I missed? Is the TruVative BB bad already? Help!

Martin
Sounds like it might be at the spoke crossings (nm)Kerry Irons

Just a little lube at the crossings and on the QR/dropout (nm)Kerry Irons

What I was trying to say (and looking back at it, I didn't do so good...) was that sometimes you can have a hub wiggling around in the dropouts making sounds that resonate around and make you think that they're HS/stem/BB/etc.

Check your dropouts & lube the QRs.
