Problem using this forum (non-topic)DINOSAUR
Oct 2, 2003 8:04 AM
For the past month or so when I'm on this forum my computer is very slow responding. For instance when I use the scroll bar it scrolls in slow clicks and takes about 20 seconds before my computer responds. We took out computer into a shop and everything is o.k. and I'm wondering if I changed a setting when I was messing around with my computer a while back. Anybody have a clue? I'll a totally non-computer person still working in the stone age.....it only does it on this forum....something about java logging enabled? (java means coffee to me)....

Not sure; mine does that at home a lot, but then it does it for other sites, too.

Try e-mailing Gregg: gkato@roadbikereview.com

Might need to reboot your modem and/or computer.

For starters, clear cache files via temporary internet files folder. Internet Exploder has a section under Tools, Internet Options that you can get control over this.

You could have lots of "spyware" as well. Download the latest free version of AdAware 6.xxx from lavasoftusa.com. Don't forget the latest reference file update. It gets updated approx once per week. Most of the stuff that comes up is fairly benign. But if you go to less reputable sites or install programs like Kazaa, there is a lot of spyware that they try to install in your computer. All of this stuff eventually bogs down your computer.

And don't forget to run regular scans of virus protection from somethink like Norton AntiVirus. I have the Norton System Works Professional CD, which comes with 5 or so programs, but I only loaded the Antivirus Program because the rest of the stuff is fluff.

That's the easiest stuff you can do. Let us know if that doesn't do the trick and you have a more specific concern.
