Seven Alta Titanium Frame(6 posts)

Has anybody ridden one of these frames and can you comment on its stiffness. Seven lists this frame for a rider weight limit of 200 lbs and claims guys weighing 190 for them are riding it with no excessive flex issues, but it seems awfully light for titanium and I'm questioning whether this frame is excessively flexy or not.

I have an Axiom Ti and am a 200plus rider. No flex problems. Know someone who has the Alta and is almost 200 and says no problems with flex. Seven designs their tubes custom for your needs. It is a thorough custom design and I know of no one amongst many who have any complaints with the Ti frames. The compact geometry for the Alta also is designed to reduce flex.

If you are worried about being too big, you can always go with the Alaris. It's tubeset is supposed to be well suited for bigger riders. Plus, I think it is the least expensive Ti frame they make, maybe $2k. Of course, least expensive is all relative :-)

BTW, I am going to Boston in two weeks for vacation and have set up a tour of the Seven shop. My wife says that I am not allowed to bring a credit card or check book near the place.

You can't buy anyting there.... all through dealers. But it is a great tour! Once you've been there you can't wait to get home and order your second Seven, which I did this summer. Tell Mike and Zack, Lyle says hello...

It's funny you mention Mike. I just got an email from him this morning. I'll tell him you said hello. We are all set to take the tour on Oct 17. My wife will be happy to hear that I can't buy anything there, but that won't make any difference in the long run. I'll still get the new bike I want!

I'm thinking of taking a bunch of photos and posting a "tour report" on here.

Tell him Lyle, with the "broken neck". This factory is the exact antithesis of the way they build bikes in Taiwan! They were building my steel Axiom when I was there. Also have a Ti Axiom. Enjoy!
