Turning a triple into a doublejrm

If i didnt run an outermost ring on a triple specific crank could i then use the derailler and BB for a double?

I would like to run a 32T inner and a 48T outer (in the middle position). Thanks in advance

probably, but that 16 tooth jump between rings might make shifting a bit sketchy. I'm doing a 34/50 but with downtube shifters.

A triple crank calls for a longer BB spindle because of the inner chainring, not the outer. The longer spindle keeps the middle chainring centered on the rear cluster while still allowing clearance between the small chainring and the frame. If you try to use a shorter BB spindle from a double chainring crank the small chainring will rub on the frame and the chain line won't be centered on the cluster.

He can use a shorter BB if he leaces the inner ring off...TFerguson

I've run a Tiagra triple using only the center ring with a 107mm BB.
