Been watching the tour and now the vuelta. I noticed that riders switch to lighter bikes on the mountain stages. Why don't the riders use those lighter bikes on the flat stages as well?

|Aerodynamics are more important than weight on fast, flat rides. Improved aerodynamics almost always comes with increased weight.|

flat days usually finish in a pack in some way, light weight stuff isnt going to help you any.
