Hey all,

Been watching the tour and now the vuelta. I noticed that riders switch to lighter bikes on the mountain stages. Why don't the riders use those lighter bikes on the flat stages as well?

any takers?

thanks and have a great ride

Aerodynamics are more important than weight on fast, flat rides. Improved aerodynamics almost always comes with increased weight.

you dont need to use your custom hand made 900g wheels and 900g frame every one of 2900+ kilometers

flat days usually finish in a pack in some way, light weight stuff isnt going to help you any.
