|Has anyone broken a Trax TAO bottle cage?||WOY|

|The lug on the cage mounted on the seat tube broke and the bottle ended up sitting on the frame. The lug is use to keep the bottle from falling out. LBS said they have seen a few broken like that, the cage on the down tube is so far OK. I guess the more up right position of the bottle put extra force on the lug.
The TAO seems to be a popular cage and I am wondering if anyone else is having the same problem?

|I installed the Trax Tao bottle cage on my bike a couple weeks ago. I put on a couple hundred miles since and have not experienced any problems as of yet.|

|I've had my tao's over a year now with no problems. They work very well. I'm waiting to see the price on the new Campy carbonfiber cage and may change to them.|

|after about a year. I thought that because it hit my frame pump and had to be wrestled out it caused the failure. I went to CO2 and ditched the pump and the Tao replacement cage has been fine so far, but its only been a couple months.|

|Yes, I have had problems with mine, the bottom plastic piece of the bottle holder broke. I sent it to Tacx us Dist. and they replaced it. NOw the Plastic pieces that are molded to the aluminum cage have come loose and I have tried gluing back, but not a good way to fix.
I am about ready to pu my Elite Cuissi cages back on, no problems with those in over 10000 mi.
I would not recommend these cages poor design where the plastic is moled to alum., will eventully have a problem with.

|I broke a Tacx Tao cage mounted on my seat tube as well. I e-mailed Tacx and they sent me 2 of the plastic components that broke. It hasn't broken since.|

|So it seems it is a common occurrence. But accorrding to the LBS they don't think the local distributor (in Oz) will warrant the broken cage which is a shame.
Anyhow I will try to see if they will warrant it.

|Mine broke about 8 miles after I first got them... during a race...
Here's a fix that got me through the next 3000mi (and counting):
- Get a plastic milk carton
- cut out a 1.5"x8" strip and then fold it over about 4 times
- punch a small hole in the center
- push the water bottle bolt through the hole and screw it back it (use a washer if you have one, and can afford the extra gram)
This solution is even better because it really holds the bottle in over the rough stuff.

|Mine lasted almost a year, then broke just as you described. Super glue fix didn't hold and neither did JB Weld. I just bought a new one, so hopefully this one lasts - but it sounds like it won't. Too bad because it's a great looking cage.|

|No problems so far.
Crashed once and the bottle cage got bent. Took it apart, manhandled it back into form and it's as good as new. Guess I've been lucky or something.

|Stop buying the Tao and get the Allure instead. Tougher, prettier, better.|| |
