BB for 1987 Croce d'Aune cranks(5 posts)

BB for 1987 Croce d'Aune crankst5rguy

I am looking for a bb axle for my '87 Croce d'Aune cranks (don't have the original one):
- what spindle length,
- does the spindle have to be asymmetric (or is this fixed by the combination of sufficient length and adjustability),
- and is ISO or JIS taper of importance.

After some considerable time on the net I found the following. For C-Record the length is 111 mm; so probably Croce d'Aune is the same. Also this bb is symmetrical.
The only current Campa bb's in this length are the Record Pista and the AC-H (for Centaur and lower).

Am I right in assuming this? And also that it is unwise to use a Shimano type square taper bb for this Campa classic? It did seem to work itself loose a lot on the Edco sealed bb that I used it with some 15 years ago.

I'd welcome any input of first hand experience! (posted this on the retro board too, no reaction sofar, maybe not retro enough!)

Campag now make a 111mm symetrical Record bb (exactly the same construction, seals and carbon sleeve as the 103mm) for use with old Record/Corsa Record chainsets.

Where can I find this one? It is not listed on the Campagnolo Italia website (only the Record Pista), not even in the new products (2004) section.

I have 4 road bikes, all using older Campy cranks, including the Croce D'Aune you have, a first generation Chorus, early 90s Record, and C Record, and I use the AC-H on all of them. It works great and is easy to install with the proper Park Tool. Can't beat the price either.
