question about old wheels(3 posts)

question about old wheelschewie

I recently bought an older, used bike ('98 Schwinn Peloton) which came with Matrix Iso wheels. I love everything else about the setup (Reynolds 853, Ultegra group, trans am saddle, etc.) but I can't find anything about the wheels. The company seems to be nonexistent. Are these junk? or what?

Matrix is a Trek house brand company. In fact, it was Trek's first in house brand. The Iso rim is an A shaped semi-aero rim. It's only strength issues tend to come from a lack of rim eyelets, and they are slightly heavy (even for their time) but they tend to hold true and ride well. Trek still makes rims under the Matrix line, but most of their high end stuff is now the Bontrager wheels based off of the Rolf Paired Spoke Wheel license.
