I've just replaced the original chainrings on my 80's shimano 600 cranks with newer 105 9spd ones.
The cranks weigh now 590g. Ok the space between crankarms and chainrings is a bit tight. Still what advantages do modern cranks provide, since these old ones are way lighter?

|Theoretically your BB and cranks together are a little lighter and stiffer than the old setup, but mostly your wallet is lighter ;)|

|Just use an SRAM PC59 9 speed chain - it will work fine with the 600 8 speed stuff, I just did this.|| |
