Campagnolo 10 speed crank with 9 speed drive train work?emahlman

I am planning on upgrading my 9spd Chorus drive train to 10 speed soon. I just purchased a new Record 10sp carbon crank and BB on a closeout.

I have compared the new Record crank to my existing 9sp Daytona Crankset.

The only difference I can see is the large chainring on the Record 10sp crankset is cut slightly different and appears to have a slightly different bevel on the inside. But, the distance between the small and large chainrings appear to be identical between both cranks? Both small chainrings look identical.

I would like to know if anyone thinks, or has tried putting a 10sp crankset into a existing 9spd drivetrain?
Or if changing the large chainring to 9sp exa-drive might work properly?

This combination appears like it might work?

Thanks,

I beleive the only difference is that the big chainring sits a tiny bit closer to the small one, to accomodate the narrower 10 speed chain. The small ring is identical. Branford bike sells a set of washers that will restore the spacing, but they are so thin (0.4mm I think) that it might work fine without them. Try it and see, you can always add the washers later. Good luck.
