what's the difference, i have seen d-a cranks model# 7700 and # 7701 ?? could not tell if any difference, anyone know?

I believe 7701 has an "octalink" decal, and that's it (nm)TJeanloz

this is to finish helping my son build up a bike, o by the way he has an incurable health concern and my not get to ride much longer...just curious about the weird models for the same item...oh also i have mostly 105 stuff on my bike...

yes, one has octalink decals. Big deal. The difference is that the later one (1) uses a different process to close up the two halves of the hollow arms. No big deal. Really cosmetic only.
