How about very fine steel wool? Will it do any harm? Scotch Brite better? Will the black from the brake pads come out? Does it matter? Thanks, I know this has been asked B4.

Scrub with a scotch brite pad and rubbing alcohol. Wipe down with a clean dry cloth. Do the same to the brake pads.

Works great. Leaves no residue.
