I really like them so I'm a little puzzled by the new Candy design. They also came out with an even bigger platform version which does make sense to me from a mtn pedal standpoint and wanting to have a larger platform for really tricking sections. But the platform on the Candy is pretty small and doesn't have anything to do with the workings of the actual pedal. Seems like unecessary weight to me.

One the pseudo intros at an MTB site mentioned something about rolling over regular eggbeaters if you don't clip in on the first try. This would probably help in that case w/o taking away ground clearance like the big platform version.

I can't see tell how big the Candy platform is from their web site, but they claim you can use it to ride w/o being clipped in, so it can't be as small a platform as Frogs or X1s...

Not usually. I've found the best way is to slide the cleat in from behind the pedal so it rolls into place and clips in. Judging from the size of my pedals, I would imagine that the Candy is bigger than the Frogs and X1s.
