Ticking Handlebar(2 posts)

Ticking HandlebarNate552

My handlebar recently started ticking when I get out of the saddle, now it sometimes ticks even when I am in the saddle. Whats making it tick??? Do I need a new bar or stem? I'm using a Cinelli Grammo Titaium Quill stem with a 3ttt aluminum 199 handlebar. It's not the shifters either because I can pull on the handlebar from other places and make it tick. I thought maybe the clamp bolt was'nt tight enough, but when I tried to tighten it, it was already tight and I ended up breaking the bolt. Whoops. I'm thinking about just greasing the handlebar, but I'm concerned the bar will move around. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Inspect carefully, then greaseKerry Irons

The odds are good that it is just in need of some grease on the bar or on the bolt (threads & head). However, to be sure you want to do a careful visual inspection of the clean bar to make sure there are no cracks. Assuming no cracks, just have a thin film of grease on all metal/metal contact points.
