Record 10 rear shifter won't shift up(3 posts)

Record 10 rear shifter won't shift upMiles E

My one year old Record 10 rear shifter left me stuck in my smallest cog on a ride today after it would not shift up. I had to pull the "thumb" lever up before I could push the other lever far enough that it "caught" and completed the shift. So it seems the "thumb" lever was not returning to the proper position that it should have after being used. If you can figure out what I'm talking about, has anyone else experienced this, or have an idea of what a remedy might be? Thanks,
Miles

I had something similar happen and found the cable frayed, jamming the cable, inside the shifter housing.

Try pulling on the cable next to the down tube. If that shifts the derailleur, then the problem is upstream.

The hoods have small notches where they 'hook' between the bar and shifter body, on mine one of the notch/hooks wasn't in place and caused shifting havoc...check that. They're on the under side of the shifter body and hood.
