|Help!! My Rolf Sestrieres are making weird noises when they freewheel. THe sound of the freewheel gets louder then soft then loud then soft. Any thoughts????|

|It still engages fine and the freewheeling is smooth and efficient. Probably a sign of wear in the freewheel engagement mech, bad spring or the like. Haven't bothered to deal with it as those systems are usually redundant. Although as we learned from Tyler in the Giro these ultralight hubsets under load can fail with catastrophic results. I'm not racing them and will probably check it out this winter. But if you're going to be sprinting on them I'd get it looked at.|
|It's the Hugi hub...||merckx56|

|If you're talking about the sounds that varies in pitch when you are coasting, it's from the hub body. The pawls are arranged in such a way that they engage and disengage at different rates. It's a star ratchet system inside. The new ones have some funky clutch in them that supposed disengages the pawls altogether when freewheeling to lessen the drag.
My two Hugis are completely different vintages, but sound just the same.
|So do mine. Never worried about it. Should I?||BIG RING|
