Campy front derailleur adjustment(6 posts)

Campy front derailleur adjustmentpeter1

My front derailleur (centaur) just started overshifting beyond the big ring. It's a high/low limit screw problem, I guess?

Quick question: Which is the high limit screw, and which way should I turn it to prevent the chain from jumping off? Figured I'd ask before I trial-and-error it!

Thanks in advance
Peter

On most models the screw closest to the frame adjusts the play of the front derailleur to the outside (big chainring) and the screw on the outside adjusts the play to the inside.
You can check this by cycling the STI or levers back and forth and watching closely as the der arm hits the screws.
Once you do this, it should be intuitive which way to turn the screw.

Before you do that, is it still shifting to the little ring with no problems? If so, the limit screw should help. If not, don't touch the limit screws. The culprit is most likely elsewhere (cable tension, lubrication)
If yer overshifting the big ring, it IS a limit screw prob. nmSpunout

The campy website has instructions for all major components in pdf format. Check it out next time you have a problem.

As others noted, it is a high limit screw problem. While you're adjusting, check the cable tension with the derailleur on the low limit screw. It should not be loose, but also not have enough tension to pull the derailleur off the low limit screw.

www.parktool.com is also a good site for general mechanical instructions.
