How difficult is it to service Ultegra BB ?superdog

Got caught in a downpour last night. Today my bottom bracket is turning really rough. I slipped the chain off the ring and turned the cranks and it is the bottom bracket.

I don't know a thing about Ultegra bottom brackets. I assume they aren't sealed. If it isn't that tough, I'll buy a BB tool and disassemble it a regrease and/or replace bearings.

Any BB info would be appreciated.

It depends on how old it is, but most of the Ultegra BB's are a sealed cartridge bearing. You can pull the crank and try to wipe off the surface debris and see if you can make sure the seals are clean, but if water got into the bearings, it's most likely dead. The good news is that they are cheap and simple to replace.

Assuming that it is the cartridge type, it should be fine after a rain. I have ridden mine under water and just removed it and dried it out. Just pull it and clean it and see if it is still bad. I don't mean to imply that the older non-cartridge type is any worse, I just have never had one.
