Campy experts - 9 speed on 8 speed hubs?(3 posts)

Campy experts - 9 speed on 8 speed hubs?jw25

I have a set of Mavic Cosmics in great condition that I use for time trials. Only thing is, they're 8 speed Campy.
I know the 9 speed stuff has deeper splines, but did the steel cassettes change patterns? I could always machine the cogs down a bit.
For reference, since apaprently there were several 8 speed cassette splines also, these are close to Shimano in depth, just a bit off in diameter, though.
Thanks for any help or education.

If you want to use 9s on an 8s wheel, you can replace the freehub body with a 9s body, or get a spacer kit from branford bike to respace an 8s cassette. The 9s cogs have deeper splines plus an added step, which could possibly be removed with a die grinder.
8s should be more than enough for tme trials. Otherwise, skip 9s and go all the way to 10s.

Old Mavic hubs don't have the option of changing the cassette body.

Go to branfordbike.com and read up on the options. Think you'll find it's not worth the money.
