best carbon fork/headset for $5spd
Jul 21, 2003 3:32 PM
I am looking to upgrade my current aluminum fork to carbon and I am looking for the best carbon fork out there for under $200. I've been looking at the Kestrel EMS and Easton forks, any thoughts or any other suggestions?
Also, any suggestions for a good (under $75) threadless headset would be great! Thanks for the help!

Regarding the fork, you might try "www.chucksbikes.com", and look in his listing for the Reynolds Ouzo Comp fork that he is selling for $110 (typical retail is something in the $230 range, I believe). The fork is an 1 1/8" threadless, and is of very good quality. I've ridden many forks, and this has been my fork of choice for the past 2 years.

I don't know the scoop on how he is selling these so cheaply (i.e. I don't know if they have cosmetic blemishes or some other issue). The site usually has various and sundry odd closeout type items.

You should be able to pick up a Kestrel EMS for around $200. Also the Ouzo Comp is in that range.

For the money on your headset.. you are so close.. buy a King and never buy another headset again. They go for around $100 if you look around, and they last forever. They even have a 10 year warranty. They are about the lightest thing on the market too, and when you think that their design is over 12 years old now... it makes you wonder. They have been the best headset on the market for over 15 years now, and it is just now getting to the point where others are starting to catch up. Sounds to me like they know their stuff, so buy a King and be done with it.
