King hubs vs DA or Ultegra? (regarding Excel wheelsets...)ralbert

Hi. I know this board is typically very pro-'handbuilt' wheels as opposed to 'boutique' wheels, so i have a question regarding two 'handbuilts'. Excel sports has 2 built wheels--one with open pro rims and DA hubs, and the other with King hubs and CXP33's--price difference is a few bills. is the King hub THAT much nicer? Really just curious, as i'm concerned about durability as well as weight.

Everyone around you will definitely know that you've got Chris King hubs on your bike everytime you freewheel.

I hate even being close to someone riding those things. They would drive me buggy.

I've got a rear King singlespeed disc hub on my MTB and I absolutely love it! The instant engagement is incredible...especially on a singlespeed. Quality and durability is second-to-none, as is King's customer service. I certainly would buy a King for my road bike, but I've got Campy Record on my geared bike and I mainly ride my Bianchi Pista fixed-gear anyway. Personally, I like the BZZZZZZZ sound.

Dura Ace and even Ultegra hubs are so well sealed that they will last a very long time before needing a rebuild.
Save money and go with Ultegra hubs with an Ultegra or 105 Cassette.
My vote is for the Kingspat1

I had excel build a set of King Wheels almost two years ago, and they are bulletproof. If you can afford the $$, you won't regret it. Yes, Dura Ace is cheaper, but with the Kings you'll never need another hub. Sure they can be loud, but a tablespoon of ring drive grease keeps the noise down (covered in the owners manual). Besides, you should not be coasting!!

Rather than there pre-built wheels with king hubs in their catalog, I had king hubs laced 3x 14g to CXP33's. Black rims/hubs look great. I weigh about 230, and the wheels have required no attention in over 3,000 miles. I had the wheels in less than a week from ordering.
