Tight rear hub on Bontrager Race X-Lite wheels(1 post)

Tight rear hub on Bontrager Race X-Lite wheelsjwv23
Jul 11, 2003 8:38 AM
I have a set of 2002 Race X-Lite wheels that came with my LeMond roadbike. The front wheel spins nicely, but the rear does not. If you hold the skewer and spin the wheel there is more friction in the hub than between the axle and skewer (i.e., the axle spins with the hub rather than remaining stationary against the skewer, as my other wheels do).

The hub does not feel rough or produce any noise, like with an over-tight cup-and-cone bearing. However, I am not familiar with cartride bearings on bikes. It feels more like the friction you would get with a really tight seal gripping the axle.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Any suggegstions for remedies? I checked the Bontrager website, and there is no description of this particular problem. Thanks in advance!
