I am going to get a computer for my new bike which has all Ultegra components.

Does anyone have any comments on the SC-6501 ?

Would you get the wireless, or hard-wired setup?

I like the functions of mine, it has been on my bike for more than a year now. I ordered a wireless kit but did not like the bulky look and many peaple said you have to replace the batteries frequently. As for the computer itself, I have had alot of malfunctions with it while riding, sometimes it wigs out on a ride and flashes between functions. The low battery has not appeared so I am a little puzzeled? Maybe some one can help me who has had a similar experience. To sumarize great features just wish it would be a little more consistent on performance.

I've had my for two years now, riding every day and never replaced the batteries either in the transmitter or the head unit. Temperature here rarely goes below 0C or above 21C which helps.

I have the wireless version. The only problem I had with it was at the shifter. The contacts were not making a good connection. To solve the problem I put a thin piece of foam behind the contact to keep pressure on it. It been working great ever since. No problem with battery life either. I really like the clean look of wireless.

Just so you know...if you have the oversize bars then you have to go with the wireless version because they don't make the bar mounting bracket in the oversize size and the computer mounting plate for the wired version will not mount on the wireless mounting bracket for the bar. Maybe it could be done with some modification, I not sure though.

I have had one for about 3 years and enjoy the ease of use. Originally had both buttons on right shifter and eventually wore one out. With both buttons on one side, I would sometimes accidentally turn it off. Now have one button each shifter and haven't had a problem since. I like to keep track of my cadance and find this unit is just fine. I do feel the head is a little large and I can't get it too close to the stem without rubbing. On the other hand, I put a Sigma on my other road bike and can tell you I will never buy another piece of Sigma junk.
