converting 1 1/8 frame to a1" forkgothik

Has anyone used a headset that tapers from 1 1/8 to a 1"? My lbs had to use one for a warrenty exchanged frame. Is this safe? Will there be any problems down line?

Thx,
Goth

... never heard of a headset that actually tapers... but have personally used adapters made by Problem Solvers (QBP) with no ummmmm... problems.

Problem Solver's adapters are merely shims that allow use of a standard 1" headset in a 1 1/8" headtube.

I've also used Chris King's devolution headset kit... which fundamentally adapts a CK 1 1/8" headset to accept a 1" steerer.

Both work great... and again, with no problems.

Do you know which headset your LBS used?

Yes. They used the Chris King head set.

... they could have used either method... both retail for about the same... and give the same results... you're good to go.

I used to have a Cannondale frame that used a 1 1/4 headset. I used a King Devolution to convert it to a more standard 1 1/8th when I put in a threadless carbon fork. Worked just fine... never had problems with it.
