Mavic SSC brakes & Shimano shifters?(4 posts)

Mavic SSC brakes & Shimano shifters?zoomservo

I would like to upgrade to those cool black Mavic brakes, but they don't seem to have a quick release. I've heard Campy has a release on their shifters but I run Ultegra (soon to be Dura Ace). How do you use the Mavics with Shimano? Are you supposed to unhook your brakepads or your brake cable every time you want to take off your wheel? Is there a way to add a quick release to the Mavics? Anyone figured this out?

Thanks - Z

I don't know how your brakes are set up, but I can get my tires on and off without using the release (had shimano and switched to campy). the owners of last year's Jamis Eclipse have DA shifters and Mavic brakes. it is doable if you don't run huge tires.
those brakes look sick, too.

I have the Mavic brakes on my TT bike, with dia compe brake levers. No quick release needed with 23mm Continental tires. I just have to give the tire a little punch to push it through the brakes. Probably wouldn't work with a 25mm tire, but would be no trouble whatever with anything narrower than 23mm.
great brakes- deflate the tires. nmLeroy
