| Ultegra/105 Rings | kup Jun 24, 2003 7:21 AM | | I want to replace my 42 and 52 chainrings with a 39 and 53 on my 105 Triple but I have only seen Ultegra chainrings in this size. Are there 39 and 53 105 Triple chainrings available? If not, will Ultegra work with my 105 cranks. Thanks |
| re: Ultegra/105 Rings | Rusty Coggs Jun 24, 2003 7:54 AM | | Yes, ultegras fit,but the 39 won't be ramped like the 42 and may not shift as well. There may be aftermarket 39 rings with shifting ramps.Check www.branfordbike.com |
| Here's the dillio... | Lone Gunman Jun 24, 2003 6:17 PM | | TA makes a 39t ring for a triple that is pinned and ramped that will work well but not identical to Shimano stock parts. Probably also make a 53 that is ramped and pinned. Check peterwhitecycles.com for info.
You will also need to swap out your front derailleur for a DA triple front derailleur. Huh? That's right, the 105 and Ultegra are meant to shift a difference of 10 teeth on the middle to big ring and 39 to 53 is 14t on a triple setup. Basically you want DA performance in ring sizes on a 105 budget, and Shimano got you there. Info courtesy of peterwhitecycles. |
| Well actually, | Rusty Coggs Jun 24, 2003 6:35 PM | | The ultegra triple FD will shift a 39/53 ok. There just needs to be at least a 10 tooth difference between the middle and big ring. |
