Head Tube Extenders(4 posts)

Head Tube Extenderssparklenuts

Any sources for head tube extenders (like the one from Serotta). I have a Trek 5200 frame that has a very short head tube, but fits me great otherwise. I am trying to get rid of some of the spacers.

Thanks,
Sparkle

I sent an email to aerolite through their website, and they sell headtube extenders for $30 -- half the price of the Serotta version. It's the same size -- providing 2 cm of extra rise -- as the Serotta and also made of titanium. You may need a shop to install it, unless you have the proper tools and are comfortable installing headsets. It fits between the top of the headtube and the headset.

If you also need a new headset, the Colnago headset has about 1 cm more stack height than most -- eliminating the need for that many spacers. It's a nice looking headset, although might be expensive through a Colnago dealer. You can buy them for less than $50 at www.totalcycling.com. Probably not worth the extra shipping costs from overseas unless you also need some tires or other equipment.
