Bottle Bolt Threads loose, help?cipolini2b

'Mornin Board,

My bike has developed an extremely annoying noise, and I've finally figured out what it is. It is the female portion of the water bottle bolt mount. All four of them are loose, and you can only imagine how terrible the noise is over even the smallest of bumps. Now. How do I remedy the problem? I'm sick of people telling me after the race, "so you're the one that was making all that noise?". I miss the quiet. If I take it to an LBS, approximately how much will it cost? The frame in question is a '03 Cannondale Caad7. Thanks!

my LBS took a mini grinder to remove them and make a mess of the frame. These little female threaded inserts are installed with a gun like a pop rivet gun, mine is called nutsert, and if you get a shop with this tool, they can screw in the tool and sqeeze the gun to finish installing them so they are tight. Can you take it to the shop that sold you the frame?
It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes if that is all it is.

It's a very easy job to do right with the right tool (nutsert or rivnut), but it is also easy to screw up the frame, especially if it's very thin tubing. Somewhere recently on one of these forums was a thread from someone who had a similar problem on a Cannondale and ended up with a big dent and a major warrantee question. I suggest you make sure the shop is competent and properly equipped, and ask about warrantees first.
