FSA cranks with Campy(8 posts)

FSA cranks with Campybarnaby

Would welcome any advice regarding the use of the FSA Pro Carbon cranks (ISIS) with Campy 10spd. How is the shifting etc with the rest of the Campy drivetrain; Any problems fitting or with wear? Looking to get them for something different rather than any disatisfaction with Campy cranks.
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers.

I just purchased a new 10spd Chorus equipped bike but wanted a carbon crank so I added the FSA Pro Carbon Team Issue. I have used both and have no real complaints about either. The carbon is very nice and stiff but for the couple of weeks that I used the Chorus crank, it was very nice as well. I am starting to wonder whether the $300 extra dollars for the carbon crank was really worth it.

Overall, it depends on your budget really. The carbon is obviously lighter but hasn't helped or hindered the shifting or any other function on the bike. Perhaps once I get more kms on the carbon crank I can comment further on wear, etc.

Regards.

Did you buy Isis drive? What brand of BB? What length spindle did you use? I have the Team Issue model, and I'm getting ready to buy a BB and am not sure of spindle length for a double. My BB shell size is 68, and I'm thinking 108 for spindle. Thoughts?

Nope, they only come with Isis drive or Octalink as far as I know, so you'll have to change you bb.

You're sort of right. The Team Issue only comes ISIS and Octalink (to the best of my knowledge) but the Carbon Pro (with the alloy spider) comes in an Iso Square Taper spindle option and it takes a 103mm BB. There is a slight catch here though.. If you know anything about ISO BB tapers... it's not the exact same as Campy. Campy uses an Italian taper. It's not ISO or JIS.. it's Campy. The crank will work on a Campy BB spindle, but not perfectly. Which is why when they released the Carbon Team Issue cranks they only put them out in ISIS or Octalink. They work perfectly with them. And you can only get the C-10 in ISIS. You could use the Carbon Pro with something like a World Class BB or some other aftermarket that uses the ISO standard, or you could use the Campy even though it's not going to be perfect... like the saying goes "close enough for governement work."

But if you want to use the Team Issue, you need to use an ISIS BB with the C-10 cranks.

Hope all that gibberish helps clear up things...
