Campy 8 speed conversion to 10???ridewt

I'm looking at purchasing a bike with Record 8. I think I can rework the levers to 10????? but what about the 8 speed hub???? Can you do anything to the hub to make it accept a 10 speed cassette or do you need a whole new wheel? Also, what about the derailleur?

Those two sites have lots of information about upgrading older campy systems.

Everything that I have read has said that the answer is no. There are two different 9 speed cams that you can be put into the right lever. One for old 8/9 speed derailleurs, and one for new 9 speed derailleurs (2001-2003). Any Shimano 9 speed wheel will work with Campy 9 speed. You can buy conversion spacer kits that will let you shift with a 9 speed lever.

An 8s can be upgraded to 9s with a shifter cam, a spacer kit and an extra cog and chain. I've done that and it works fine. There are two shifter cams, so you will need to get the correct one. To upgrade to 10s, you will need a shifter cam, a new freehub body, a cassette, a chain and a rear derailer. Any 9s hub will accept the 10s cassette, and 2001 and newer 9s derailers will shift 10s, but you need to change the derailer pulleys. Also, front shifting degrades because of the narrower 9s or 10s chains, but you can make them shift OK if you bend the front side plates of the front derailer cage, or you can replace the front derailer. has a compatibilty chart.

According to the Branford Bike website, Campy 8 can be changed to Campy 9 (Old or new), but it can't be changed to campy 10. Campy 9 speed levers, can be changed to 10 speed. There must be something special about the 8 speed levers that prevents using the 10 speed cam.
