Problem locking into Shimano SPD-SL pedal(4 posts)

Problem locking into Shimano SPD-SL pedalalmccm

I just got a pair of the new Ultegra pedals. I went out for a test ride this morning and the left pedal locks in and clicks out fine. However, the right pedal will not lock in. It's very easy to pull my foot out of it.

I took the pedals off the bike and looked at them tonight. It's clear that the clamp on the right pedals doesn't close all the way. If I push on it with my thumb I can get it to lock but with a normal entry it will not lock. It doesn't look like there is anything that I can adjust to make it work correctly.

Is there something I'm missing or am I just going to have to return them? I bought them new from a dealer on eBay so returning them won't be as fast and easy as taking them to the local LBS (although they were about $45 cheaper than if bought at an LBS).

I'll also call Shimano tomorrow and see if they can give me any advice.

I tried fully tight, loosen by 4 clicks, loosen by 6 clicks, loosen by 8 clicks. Same situation in all cases, the left shoe locks in the right shoe doesn't. I can make the right shoe lock in by pressing on the clamp with my thumb.
