cheap training tires?dave11

I'm sick of wearing thru expensive tires. Need a cheap set that will last on my training wheels, while limiting wear on my other set of racing tires and wheels. Any suggestions of what to buy and where's the best place to get cheap.
Been happy w/Performance house brand.cory

I think IRC makes 'em. I've used Nashbar, too, but not lately.

I use the Kevlar version because they wear better. I usually get a full season out of a pair.
Performance = Panaracer = National Tire Co.jw25

For a decent trainer, you could do far worse than some Panaracer Stradius Sports or Elites. Even the Pros, since the prices dropped when they introduced the Extremes. I've been very happy with my Pros - they don't seem to wear, and the tread is very cut-resistant.
The Michelin Prestige, also at Performance, is another high mileage, durable tire. They're typically offered in a 3-pack for a decent price, and 3 tires will last you many, many miles. The red's a little loud, but once it gets dirty, it calms down. The black sidewalls look much better than the skinwall of a few years ago.
Personally, I hesitate to cheap out on training tires. Real cheap tires tend to use poor quality rubber that doesn't corner as well, and heavier, thicker casings that ride more harshly than slightly more expensive tires.
Just keep your eyes open for sales, and you'll find something decent and save your good rubber for the races.
Conti Sport 1000s, cheap, decent grip, tough, get anywhere. [nm]niteschaos

Forget Conti 1k's!Alexx

Sure, they grip, but they wear out so damn fast, and they flat just from LOOKING at glass. Don't buy Conti 1000's, unless you really want to spend a lot of time patching and replacing your tires.
