Permalink lifespan?DaveG

I have about 2000 miles on my Campy10 chain with permalink. I seem to recall reading that the link has a lower lifespan than the rest of the chain. There is minimal chain stretch even when measured across the permalink. Should I worry?

But there is no way to predict failure in something like this. Early permalink exerience covered a broad range from near-immediate failures to several 1000 miles with no problems. Many attributed the early failures to improper installation. Since you don't know whether yours was "improperly" installed, you have no way of knowing what to expect by way of lifetime. I suspect you're in fine shape since it has gone this long with no XS wear. Could break tomorrow, though!

After it broke, I started using a Connex/Wipperman connector with my Campy 10 chains to avoid having to buy the stupid Campy chain tool and use the permalink. I've had no trouble whatsoever with the Connex connectors. Will replace the connector when I change the chain.
