Look PP396 Look Road Pedals Versus Look A3.1 Road Pedalsdariow

Now that I have my new Trek 5200, I need to buy road pedals. I saw at an online store that the Look PP396 pedals are on sale for 100 dollars. The site claims that the retail price of these pedals is 200 dollars.

The Look A3.1 road pedals are also 100 dollars.

What exactly is the difference between these pedals? Which of these pedals do you recommend?

I have large feet (13 5E) and would like a simple and quick release.

I am new to this cycling madness and would like your advice Please email me or post your opinion here.

As always, thanks so much for your help.

Sincerely,
Dario

Spring tension is greater on the pp396's I believe. Also, the 396's have the FreeArc dial to control heal movement. It works for me well, but some find it does nothing other than break. Other than that, the two systems are similar with the 3.1 being newer body style.

Howdy Dario, I've used both pedals and MUCH prefer the 3.1 pedals. The PP396's are a fine pedal BUT the release is VERY tight, even on low setting(12 newton meters). I then tried the 5.1 pedals, with same result. THEN I tried the 3.1 pedals. Voila!! Release tension is adjustable from 8-12 newton meters and the difference is quite amazing. Adjustable float is no big deal and the 3.1 pedals have 9 degrees built-in float anyway. Unless you're a criterium racer, get the 3.1's. Good luck, Tom
