I'm sure this question has been asked millions of times in fact I'm sure i've skimmed by it at least 100.
What's it take to turn a double into a triple. Front d. + cranks i would assume. anything else? bb? shifters?
the bike in question has ultegra with xt rear d.

if it's 9 speed ultegra the shifters will shift a triple.Crankset, proper longer BB, and FD. Short cage RD works but due to lack of wrap capacity, some of the smller cogs won't be useable when in the granny ring.
But it's XT der, so anything will work.PeterRider

Every time i see a post regarding creating a triple i offer a trade. I have 2001 shimano 105 in pretty decent shape, i would swap over all the parts required. I never used the granny gear, and am presently running it with a 109mm bb. shoot me an email if you are interested. going to 105 is a bit of a downgrade for you, but i see by your derailleur combo you are not exactly a purist!
