Short chainstay/triple compatibility(2 posts)

Short chainstay/triple compatibilityrwsh

In the most recent edition of Cycling Plus (#144), there was a helpful article on women's bikes. However, it generated a compatibility question. The smaller frame sizes covered in the article were in the 40 - 51 cm range presumably with proportionately shorter chainstays and all three brands were "spec'ed" with triple chainsets. Does this not present a significant chainstay/triple compatibility issue in that the chain angle will be very acute, leading to rapid drivetrain wear and some loss of mechanical efficiency? What is the shortest chainstay length that is recommended for a triple chainset? Any thoughts welcomed.

With triples and very short stays, common cense rules. Just stay out of the bigger cogs when in the big ring and smaller cogs when in the granny ring.
